SINT GERTRUDIS

Sint Gertrudis -Saint Gertrude- is the patron saint of the eponymous
Fanfare & Drumband from the small village of Sint Geertruid.
Located in the beautiful hills of Limburg in the Netherlands,
it has a strong connection with a centuries old sacral procession
called 'Bronk' in which the whole village participates
including the Fanfare & Drumband.
For this procession i wrote this processional march for Drumband
in a slow but steady and stately feel.
The alternation between the five parts makes it a varied march.
Because of it's character, the march is suitable for
all kinds of solemn occasions.
Instrumentation 5 parts: snare drum, snare drum snares off,
tenor drum (or high bass drum), bass drum (low), marching cymbals.

LEKKER MERSJKE

The title of this challenging march is simple as it is funny:
(in Limburg dialect:) 'Hey chief, wienee sjriefse os nog 'ns ein Lekker Mersjke?'
translated: 'Hey chief, when do you write us some tasty marching music again?'
Well, here it is guys.
It is a varied groove orientated march with latin and funk elements
where each part has its spotlight-moment.

tenor drum, bass drum, marching cymbs.

FROM DEIRA TO LA DIGUE

This extensive piece for marching percussion band refers to the
composer's journey to Dubai and the Seychelles in 2016.
The first part of the march, Deira, is based on Arabic rhythms.
Deira is the last authentic Arab quarter in the otherwise state-of-the-art city of Dubai.
La Digue, part two, is one of the beautiful 'bounty' islands of the Seychelles.

Their style of music is Creole in origin.

This march, with tempo and measure changes is premiered
during the World Music Contest in 2017 by Drumband Gertrudis Wijlre.
Instrumentation 7 parts: snare drums (2x), bongos, tambourine (and/or beatring),
marching cymbals, bass drum high (or tenor drum), bass drum low.

WAMOCHI

This elaborate 3,5 minute piece for marching percussion was composed for Concordia Obbicht.
They performed it at the marching contest of the World Music Contest in 2013.
The syllables refer to this contest: WMC.
The meaning of the title is a funny story. A musician of the marching band came up with it:
WAsabi MOsterd (mustard) CHIli. These sauces refer to the three musical influences in this piece:
Asian, West-European and Latin. In the end the band won the contest in the 1st division.
Instrumentation 6 parts: snare drum 1 with mini hihat, snare drum 2 with tamborim, Bongos, Tenor Drum with aux. perc., bass drum, cymbals.

PAN-AMERICANA

Like the Pan-American Highway crosses through America,
'Pan-Americana' is also a cross-section of American musical styles:
rudimental, latin, funk, and swing/shuffle.

It consists of 3 parts that flow into each other.
Next to style-changes, tempo and measure changes occur also.

I've added some visual and marching aspects that integrate nicely into the whole and aren't just mere effects.

The technical and groovy skills for sure will certainly be challenged!
Instrumentation 5 & 6 parts (s.d. 2 splits up into two parts):
High tension s.d., snare drum, tenor drum, bass drum, marching cymbals.
